The History of Nightsafe

Nightsafe was established in 1990 with the aim of alleviating the plight of homeless young people within the Blackburn and Darwen borough.

The Shelter is an emergency night shelter that opened in December 1990.  It provides a temporary safe place to stay for upto five young people aged 16 to 24 years old.

The Witton Project has been open since 1992, it's a supported housing project promoting indenpendent living for 16 to 18 years olds.

The Fusebox was opened in February 1996, it's a day centre providing traditional facilities such as laundry, storage, showers and meals.  It also has an educational and health promotion brief.

The Cornfield Cliffe supported housing project was opened in February 2008 in Darwen, it provides six en-suite rooms with 24 hour support for 16 to 24 year olds.

In December 2010 we celebrated 20 years of working with homeless young people in the area.  To mark this occasion and raise awareness of homelessness we launched an anniversary appeal.  One of the main fund raising events was sleep out on 3rd December 2010 in Blackburn & Darwen town centres, sponsored volunteers slept out to raise awareness of the appeal.
